Microperforated Film

Microperforated film is a film type with lots of tiny holes, with a diameter of 1-2mm, to allow air permeation but also to allow a barrier between the contents and the environment. The holes are so small that water droplets cannot pass through and dust, dirt and debris are also prevented from contaminating the product within. Microperforated film reduces condensation by increasing the water vapour transition rate in order to reduce the product sweating, therefore increasing the products viability and extending the shelf life.

This type of film covers a varying amount of applications, with benefits of the film having controlled ventilation for packaging solutions. The most commonly used application today for microperforated film is within the food industry for perishable goods, such as fruit and vegetables and fresh herbs along with baked goods. Converting the film into bags offers food ventilated packaging solutions for loose produce, recipe boxes and baked goods, but other applications include film requiring dust and debris barriers but require airflow to reduce the risk of condensation and moisture impacting on the products shelf life and freshness.
